How To Train Parrots With Patterning

When we learn something for the first time like how to train parrots, assemble a bicycle or operate a computer program, it is often terribly difficult and time consuming.

Each time we go through the motions of a task, that activity I becomes both easier and faster, until I after a time, the patterned activity is not only easier to do, but it actually becomes difficult to do something different.

This can be defined as habitual behavior.

If a parrot or a human is habitually cantankerous and uncooperative, we must expect that individual to repeat the same or similar behaviors.

Any time a bird bites a human, it is easier for that bird to bite that human next time.

If a parrot or a human is habitually cooperative, we can expect cooperative behavior throughout all areas of the bird's behavior.

When learning how to train parrots you should know that each time a bird peacefully interacts with humans, it is easier for the bird to interact peacefully the next time.

Maintaining peaceful behavior in a parrot is dependent upon the regular practice and performance of redundant, interactive rituals or routines that both the bird and the humans enjoy.

Patterning exercises are, therefore, interactive routines performed by birds and humans together that establish favored patterns that can be stimulated by the will of the humans.

Additionally, the act of stimulating the pattern establishes the human as dominant in this status-oriented interaction.

Enjoyable patterning is the most significant tool for maintaining cooperative behavior throughout the companion bird's lifetime.

Any parrot will exhibit mood changes.

They are little feathered dragons, and sometimes they must be allowed to breathe a little "fire."

But consistent practice of enjoyable routines will ensure peaceful, cooperative behavior throughout a bird's lifetime.

The patterning exercises I use most frequently are step-ups, the towel game, and interactive submissive postures.
